Our goal is to promote upward mobility and economic prosperity among Chicago’s many residents. City Colleges offers free English as a Second Language (ESL) and high school equivalency (GED® and HiSET® preparation) classes for adults, reducing the financial burden of entering the city’s workforce. Students in these courses are eligible to participate in the City Colleges Career Bridge and Gateway programs. The Career Bridge program lets students learn about a specific career (and, in some cases, earn a professional certificate allowing them to immediately enter the workforce) while preparing for the GED® or HiSET® exams. The Gateway program allows Career Bridge completers and other eligible Adult Education students to transition to certificate and degree programs at a reduced tuition rate.
